Church of St Anthony the Abbot

It was probably an ancient mosque built by the Arabs and long remained the spiritual centre of the Muslim community, even after the arrival of the Normans. The minaret, destroyed during Angevin rule, was rebuilt by the Aragonese. In 1361 the building was converted into a Christian church. Inside one may admire the canvas of Saint Dominic with scenes from his life by G. G. Lo Varchi, perhaps of 1635, the canvas of Saint Blaise by an anonymous painter of the circle of the Zoppo di Gangi, and the 16th-century holy water stoup from the Gagini circle.

The front of the building has a side entrance. The bell tower is also of interest, crowned by a majolica spire largely destroyed over the centuries.
