Church of the Udienza

← Back to the portfolio

The building, once known as San Giorgio, was a centre of spiritual life for the faithful of the Byzantine rite: it was built by Countess Adelasia in the 12th century precisely to mark the boundary of the Byzantine Capitanea.

Authoritative historical sources record that the church already existed in 1780 and that over the years it was dedicated to the cult of Maria Santissima dell'Udienza.

The church, which has been the seat of several congregations, houses a finely crafted nativity scene.
